Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base of the formation marked by gray massive conglomerate shows an angular discordance with gray yellow and yellow green shale of the underlying Lower Triassic Luolou Fm. The Kuangjiawan Formation shows an angular discordance with the underlying strata.
Upper contact
The top of the formation is not observed.
Regional extent
The formation occurs in Huishui, Luodian, Rongjiang and Lipo of southern Guizhou. It is persistent in lithology and varies considerably in thickness. Northward from Kuangjiawan to Chitu of Huishui, only the upper member of 31 m thick is observed; southward to Luodian only the lower member of 51 m thick is observed; eastward the formation increases in thickness, for example, the lower member is 132 m in Lipo, the lower member 162 m and the upper member 346 m in Rongjiang. Generally, the formation is 76 m thick.
